Asthma Prevention

In the last decade alone, asthma rates have increased more than 100% with an over 300% increase in cases for children!

Many experts now believe this extreme rise in asthma diagnoses is due to the decline of indoor air quality. Individual families are beginning to spend more and more time inside their airtight and enclosed homes, limiting the amount of fresh air they have access to. In addition, indoor levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) have increased sharply. Each of these factors has contributed to climbing rates of asthma and other respiratory problems.

Chlorine and other harmful chemicals can very quickly vaporize into the indoor air, emerging primarily from the shower or bathtub. Given this fact, the U.S. EPA has stated, "Elevated levels of chloroform gas can be detected in virtually every American home due to chlorine in shower water..." When chlorine vaporizes and combines with other organic compounds in the air, "chloroform gas," a strong irritant to lung tissue, is the result. Chloroform gas also causes fatigue and mucus build-up in the lungs.

Many doctors now recommend shower filters or whole house water filters for individuals with asthma and other respiratory problems. Amazingly, the first shower filter was invented when a Texas family discovered that their 6-month-old son's "chronic asthma" was actually sensitivity to chlorine vapors! Shower water filtration and whole house filtration can truly offer genuine asthma prevention and treatment benefits.
